THE ART OF BAXX ERA X*IX*MMXI >>> PROJECTS > RePainted Old Art

Second-hand shop paintings are pretty predictable — old-fashioned still life, weird children, flirty ballerinas and lots of very boring landscapes. Not many of us would think to include them in our home decor, unless we found a particularly rare gem or were going for a kitschy theme.
Artist Baxx Vladimir adds twists to old art. In his series of RePainted old paintings, Baxx Vladimir paints pop culture characters into secondhand shop’s paintings. The result can be quite humorous, with once serene landscapes now holding a whimsical new angle. In most cases, Baxx takes care to follow the original artist’s painting style, so that his added characters will blend in with the scene as seamlessly as possible. Famous characters such as the Bamse, Pippi Longstocking, and Moomintroll have found there way onto the art of secondhand shops who perhaps didn’t realize the potential of what they had. The recycled art series has breathed new life into paintings which may otherwise have been tossed away.
